Goal: To foster collaboration between the medical and lay community in order to take action on disease prevention, such as supporting the availability of public spaces (i.e. parks) for physical activity promotion.
Conference Proceedings
The Office of Outreach and Multicultural Affairs and the University of Arizona’s Hispanic Center of Excellence collaborated with the Arizona Latin-American Medical Association (ALMA), the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (THCC) to host the Second Annual Latino Health Promotion Summit on February 11, 2012. The goal of the summit was to bring together community members, physicians, medical and pre-health students, residents and promotoras or community health workers to increase awareness of the effects of excess weight on health and wellness and to work together to develop community-based health promotion strategies that address the root causes of this epidemic in the Latino community*.
